Publication Ethics

The academic journal Economic Scope adheres to high standards of publication ethics and ensures transparency and integrity at all stages of the editorial process.

The journal’s editorial policy is based on the principles and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), and the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA). Adherence to these principles implies that the journal:

  • operates in accordance with international ethical standards (COPE);
  • maintains an independent and transparent editorial policy (WAME);
  • evaluates research based on its scholarly content rather than formal metrics (DORA).

The journal considers only original scholarly works that have not been previously published and are not under consideration elsewhere. Submission of a manuscript constitutes the author’s (authors’) agreement with the principles of academic integrity and publication ethics.

Compliance with this policy is a mandatory condition for publication in Economic Scope and entails the following:

  1. Responsibilities of the Editorial Board
  • to ensure impartial, objective, and confidential handling of manuscripts;
  • to select articles solely on the basis of their scientific quality, relevance, and alignment with the journal’s scope;
  • to prevent any form of discrimination based on gender, age, nationality, political or religious beliefs;
  • to use appropriate software tools to detect plagiarism and text overlap;
  • to consider complaints, appeals, and reports of ethical misconduct;
  • to make publication decisions based on the results of peer review.
  1. Responsibilities of Authors
  • to submit accurate and reliable results of their own research;
  • to ensure proper citation and acknowledgment of all sources used;
  • to disclose the use of artificial intelligence tools;
  • to avoid all forms of plagiarism, self-plagiarism, data fabrication, or falsification;
  • to disclose any potential conflicts of interest;
  • to confirm that the manuscript is not under consideration elsewhere and has not been previously published.
  1. Responsibilities of Reviewers
  • to adhere to the principles of objectivity, scientific rigor, and confidentiality;
  • not to use the content of manuscripts in their own research prior to publication;
  • not to upload manuscript texts to AI platforms during the review process;
  • to disclose any potential conflicts of interest to the editorial office.

In cases of identified violations of academic integrity (including plagiarism, self-plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, and authorship manipulation), the editorial office reserves the right to reject the manuscript, retract a published article, and notify the relevant academic or educational institutions.

Procedure for Handling Complaints on Ethical Violations

The Editorial Board ensures a transparent, objective, and impartial process for handling complaints related to potential violations of academic integrity and publication ethics.

A complaint may be submitted in cases of suspected or confirmed:

  • plagiarism or self-plagiarism;
  • fabrication or falsification of data;
  • authorship manipulation;
  • undisclosed conflicts of interest;
  • violations of ethical standards in peer review or editorial handling;
  • unethical use of artificial intelligence technologies.

Complaints must be submitted in writing to the editorial office (publication@economic-prostir.com.ua), clearly describing the nature of the alleged violation and, where possible, providing supporting evidence. Anonymous complaints may be considered if sufficiently substantiated.

The Editorial Board:

  • registers the complaint and conducts an initial assessment of its validity;
  • may involve independent experts or reviewers where necessary;
  • provides the author(s) with the opportunity to submit written explanations;
  • makes a decision within a reasonable timeframe, taking into account the complexity of the case.

Based on the outcome of the review, the editorial office may:

  • reject the manuscript;
  • suspend the publication process;
  • request revisions or corrections;
  • retract a published article;
  • inform the relevant academic or educational institutions.

The decision of the Editorial Board is final and is communicated to the parties concerned.
